YET ANOTHER CASE OF GENDERED ADVERTISING
I spotted these today in Target.  Notice the “women’s” earplugs are “pretty” and “pink” with a butterfly on the packaging.  Notice the passive font style, the woman who is obviously sleeping pretty in pink, and well, all the pink.
The “men’s” earplugs are presented quite differently.
Notice the stereotypical “manly” blue and green color scheme, the bold aggressive font, and how they use words like “extreme” (with a flaming “X”, because what’s more manly than flaming things?).  Last but certainly not least, notice the name of the earplugs: “Hearos” - as in “Heros”?  Coincidence? I think not.
Sigh.
